No much news since last post, this is mainly to tell about my courses in Chalmers... One picture from yesterday is coming, as soon as I get it from Hanna...
Concurrent programming (7,5 ECTS):
I had the same course in Finland just in Autumn so I can do a bit of comparation. The course was bigger than the one in Finland, that's for sure. We had 2 x 2h lectures per week + 3 programming assignments.
Lectures were good. I mean they really were good. We had two lecturers and especially other one of those was really good one. Somewhat close to "bitti" for those who know him. Lectures were in English, but I didn't find it a problem, more like a advantage. Other lecturer wasn't that good in teaching but as I heard he was somewhat oracle in concurrent programming.
The three assignments were really good also. First was made with Java, second with JR (just an ad-on for Java) and last one with Erlang. In two first ones you could really concentrate in understanding the concurrent problems since languages aren't thos cryptic, difficult to read, new languages of which you have no idea what's going on. Erlang was like that, but assignment was easy and short one so it was still easy to handle. :) Projects weren't small that's for sure. We (projects were done in pairs) spent more than 10hours on each. The assignments were also interesting and they really had some connections to real-life. I liked it. (And I really liked to work with Swede that's for sure..! The way of doing things is nice. All the time he wanted to be sure that both knew what we are doing etc.)
Exam was HARD WORKING. 5 really long programming questions. 4 hours of time, and you really had to use it all. I could answer to all questions and I have good feelings about exam but can't really be sure if the answers are correct or not. It's kinda hard to compile on paper ;)
Managerial economics (7,5 ECTS):
Other course I had was economics course. Based on company's finance, investments, pricing etc. We had lectures around same amount as in Concurrent programming but they weren't regular(?). Lectures now and then.. Other parts were a big project about some company's investment and ofcourse an exam.
Lectures were bad. I'm still not completely sure about the language they were given. Okey it was English but the Swenglish lecturer was speaking was just awful. Not much good to say about lectures and I didn't attend them that much.
The project was interesting. We had 5 persons (2 Swedes and 3 Finns) in our group. We had to contact companies and get one we could do an interview about their recent investment. It felt kinda strange to ask from companies about their finance, investments etc. Felt like classified information. We went to Berg's. We had an interview with funny guy, their operational manager. He had done 2 years of high school kind of school and went to working. Now he was the operational manager. :) After interview we made a paper where we compared their investment decision tools to books ones etc. It was good practise and you got a good view on how they do those things in companies.
The exam was EASY. :) 5 0f 9 questions were straight from the old exams on which we had answers :p First I was a bit afraid about this exam since I wasn't sure I know what there was going on in the course. But exam was just easy and simple so I feel like I can get even the best grade from this course!
That's for the courses.. Exams were quite interesting occasions in Chalmers also. Exams last for 4 hours which is a long time to concentrate!
All exams are anynomoys for examinators when they grade them. The procedure was kinda funny. We filled our details in side of paper, then showed that they were correct for the person giving the exams. After it was checked we had to bend a black slide over our person details. In addition for that we had just one random number to identificate ourselves and papers.
Nice part in exams was that you could go to bathroom when ever you wanted without asking from the supervisor. Just go and get your things done and get back. The bathroom was in same floor and there was other supervisor checking that you couldn't go away from examination area.
Last and best part was that lecturers made rounds around the examination rooms and you could ask if you had any questions on exams. Really nice habit. :)
That's about it.. I start to prepare for my second jobinterview... :)
